On the trail

'Lifeform detected. Delete.' The cyberman was stomping up the stairs, and I had no idea what to do. His face appeared on my computer screen, and looked around the room as the footsteps approached. "Wha! I didn't know they could do that...'
'Lifeform found. Unsuitable for conversion. Delete.'
'Let's not be hasty!'
Outside, he'd reached the landing.
Desperate, I grabbed my staff, leaning against a corner, and the wall mirror.
The door fell to the floor with a crash as he forced his way into the room. his arm laser popped out, and I raised the mirror in defense. It was smashed to pieces.
'Ah. Worth a try.'
I ducked another laser, and brought my staff smashing down on his metal head. It did absolutely nothing. By this point I was nearer the door than him, so I ducked out and rushed downstairs, frantically brainstorming. 'Uh, lets see. weak to gold? Not sure these new ones are, and I don't have any. Unlock it's emotion circuit? How? Oh, Rory got one with a sword! I don't HAVE a sword...'
A bit of wall by my shoulder, and I don't mind telling you, I started swearing. Loudly. A lot.
I tried the front door briefly, but it was locked. The keyhole seemed to have disappeared too. It looked like I was going to have to fight it. I ran to the french windows, which were mainly glass. Luckily, I was still holding a very large, thick stick.
SMASH!!!!
Knocking loose shards away from the frame, I made it to the garden. I went to the shed, and searched for something of use. Finding the lawnmower, I pulled it out, and started to drag it round and round in a circle round me. slowly, as I sped up, it left the ground, and I began, with difficulty, to hammertoss it. As the cyberman came through the french windows, and raised his gun arm, calling 'Delete' again, I let go, and a huge mass of heavy metal slammed into him, knocking him to the ground, dented, with a lawnmower on his chest. As his eyes flickered on and off and he began to shift it off him, I approached with the tree clippers. You the sort, the ones that can cut decent sized branches, and that your Dad warns you could cut your hand or finger off with ease so that you won't go near them. I doubted they were up to the thicker parts, but where the gun was attached.....
I chopped the laser off, and had a thin tube of metal capable of laser fire. I turned it on him. 'Delete yourself.'
That done, I went back to the front door. No change, but a burst of red light got it open. I was about to leave when there was a weird beep from upstairs, and a videogame style fanfare. I went back to my room. Where the cyberman's face had been on the screen, It now said 'Congratulations! New power up!' and floating infront of the screen was the 2d outline of a cyberman head. As I watched, it flickered, and became the outline of a normal head, with binary flashing across inside it. I t kept going flat as it span, then widening into a full 2d image again. I reached out to touch it. A wave of energy shot up my arm to my brain as it vanished, and binary scrolled across my vision before returning to normal. My head was full of new thoughts; My phone had three emails on it, Hana was off chatting to Micah on some remote server, my computer was running a bit slow after being controlled by the cyberman. I surfed the web on my computer with only the smallest of thoughts, and it arrived on the screen. My technopathy was back! It seemed the Fates had parted me from all my powers, and wanted me to fight for them. I'd battled a living machine for my technopathy, what on earth would be next? Would I have to fight Thor, or Quetzalcoatl, or Xmen's Storm for my weather power? what would getting colour manipulation back involve? What was happening to my friends? Were they being subjected to tests too? Were they doing well?

I decided to explore outside. It was black. There was nothing there. I heard the house door slam shut. I was trapped in nothingness. I stumbled around for a while, and found what felt like a door. Hoping it was the way back, I pulled it open, and entered, a posh looking place, with sandy colours, actual sand, and a jolly looking hiker sort of man standing at the entrance to a passage, grinning at me.

'Welcome to the battle pyramid! Are you brave enough to take the challenge?'

What?
